Canvey's War Memorial and the B17s

New Photos from Gary Foulgar

By Janet Penn

Gary Foulgar has lent us some photos of the war memorial from the 90s when the old WWI plaque was removed and the new WWII plaque and the B17 commemorative plaque were installed. They have since been moved to the side panels and the WWI plaque reinstated. This year will be the last time the memorial wall will stand as it is today. A new memorial is hoped to be finished in time for November.

As I read once more about the Memorial....even over here on Vancouver Island a shiver goes up my spine. Knowing that I am one of the B17 witnesses and actually saw the burning bomber fly right overhead and on to Leigh Beck Point where it crashed and burned. Great memorial pictures
