Bungalows on Canvey

A good view of a typical Canvey unmade road.

Bungalows on Canvey.
Roger Thipthorp collection

This view is one of two identical cards in Mr. Thipthorp’s collection. They each have interesting messages on the back which I’ve reproduced below.

One is dated 1919 and reads: Dear Ruth, this is like the big field where we are staying and the bungalows all over it. I rather like it, you get a fine blow, there is another young girl staying with us, so there are 5 altogether. We are going to Southend tomorrow for a change. It is really lovely weather today, love from Nelly

The other card is dated August 1920 and was addressed to Mrs Pooger, Tulse Hill and reads: Would you be so kind as to take Ma a 1/2 pint milk and one white loaf from your baker’s tomorrow Saturday. I hope to be home about    6 o/c. Yours sincerely, G. Jarralt
