Did you know that around 1934/5 Charringtons were buying land on the corner of Furtherwick Road as you can see by the map drawn by E E Lawrence in 1934. Purchase price was around £1,600. Some of the land belonged to Clarks Estates and some to Fielder. Apparently it was to be a pub/hotel. Although it appears the sale went through in October 1935 no such building appeared but a few years later the Monico was built and that became a Charrington House.
Does anyone know what happened?
