Rest on the menu. It’s goodbye kettles and pans for Marianne Lilley. The school cook has hung up her apron after 20 years of dishing up pupils’ favourites. Mrs Lilley of Maple Way Canvey, is taking a well-earned rest from the canteen at Canvey Infants School, Long Road where her own three children were among the hungry youngsters she fed over the years. Head teacher Mrs Audrey Phillips said:’ She started off washing dishes 20 years ago and gradually worked her way up to cook.’ Mrs Lilley, taking early retirement due to ill-health, was an expert at cooking most things but cheese flan was her speciality. Now she is looking forward to spending her free time in the garden. Staff and county councillor Ray Howard, chairman of the school governors presented her with a garden bench.
