On a page on this site is a booklet dated 1954 that shows the top picture here and an article about Col Fielders dream of a new Road and Bridge from Benfleet to Canvey. You can read more about it if you click the link above.
Here we show the original aerial photo owned by Fielder which appears to have been pinned to the wall at some point.
As we all know things did not quite come out as planned. Some 20 or so years later there was a much watered down version of this plan but an additional road was added to the west. Both going round Waterside roundabout.
