Haystack PH

from the 1933 guide

According to the guide it had recently been built in 1933 by H Price Powell at Small Gains.

It was not clear in the guide that this was the Haystack PH. Just stated building recently finished. No reference in the illustration index either. That is why I wondered if perhaps there had been another similar building. The record office have plans lodged with them in 1925 for Haystack PH by architect E E Lawrence and builder Price Powell but this seems a little early for this particular building. I am assuming that would have been the original building nearer the corner.

Can anyone clarify?

  • This is the Haystack pub. I believe that Price Powell’s office was at Small Gains Corner in the 30’s.
