Lawless Canvey

Why not put a few cowboys on Canvey Island to round up stray cattle and then the Dutchman can enjoy his pipe of peace?

Canvey Island, once a Dutch settlement and still numbering some Dutch descendants among its inhabitants, has been the scene of strife among the cattle owners, and the once sylvan atmosphere of the island has been disturbed. "The law must and shall be respected," said Mr. R. A. Wodd, Chairman of the bench, in a case last week in which the defendant was charged with illegally liberating a number of cattle.
