Yesterday Graham Stevens gave us a great talk about the events leading up to the flood in 1953 and what actually happened on the Island. Unfortunately we were running short of time as there was so much to cover.

The talk was held in the War Memorial Hall which had been officially opened for the first time on the night of the floods. It also featured in one of our pictures which we had not realised.

We were delighted to see so many Canvey Islanders coming to support us. Including helpers and press there were around 120 adults and we were also joined by 60 children from Canvey Infants School in Long Road who are currently learning what happened 63 years ago.

Part of the money raised yesterday will be donated to the flood relief in the north of England. We thought it appropriate as so many places helped us in 1953. How much will be donated has not yet been decided.

NOTE: £200 is being donated to the Cumbria Flood Appeal.
