Canvey Sea Scouts are on their way to replacing four boats destroyed by vandals.

Firebugs recently set light to two sailing boats, a dingy and tender belonging to the scouts at Tewkes Creek, Canvey.

Now the 4th Canvey Sea Scouts are pulling out all the stops to replace the boats.

A jumble sale boosted scout group funds by more than £80.

Group scout leader Mr Alan Evans said: “The jumble sale st the War Memorial Hall attracted about 140 people. We have had better in the past, but it was, nevertheless, a success.”

The proceeds will be shared between camping equipment maintenance and replacing the boats.

  • Hi, I’m the boy in the photo turning the handle. My name is Jason Wopling and I was in the sea scouts at this time. What a blast from the past!
