How sad, to see this great structure about to be demolished. Thank goodness I have memories of the Casino during it’s “Hey Days”.
My mind goes back to the days when the Casino was a going concern especially from the mid 40’s and into the early 50’s.
Who could forget those days when Eric and Nina Perrin taught lots of Islanders how to Ballroom dance and to the strict tempo of the dance band “The Nightspots”. My Dad played piano along with 6 other great musicians and many great dances were held, week nights and week ends.!! When that great ballroom floor was crowded with dancers and “Jivers” the huge front doors, or windows were opened to cool things down. What a beautiful view of the River Thames.!! All good things must come to an end I know, but that picture does sadden me.

I agree, Gerald. So sad to see so many places such as the King Canute, Rio, Casino, and so many shops gone or boarded up, and the “New” school that i went to on Furtherwick road demolished.

Hello… I knew the Harniess family who owned the amusements in the late 60’s & early 70’s. Their son was tragically killed in a road accident and they left quite soon after that. I worked for a couple of seasons in the seafront shop, which was owned by a Ms. Swan. It was a very busy place in those days with a lot of day trippers in the summer months.
