The Concrete Barge

Late 50s early 1960s?

We have recently acquired a load of family photos taken on Canvey. We do not know the provenance but it does have the name Day on one of the photo wallets so we are assuming this is who took them. We do not know if they just came here for holidays or if they did move here as many did. If you recognise anyone please comment below the photos.

  • Re Day pictures. That’s my Auntie Ida and Uncle Frank Day. The children are my cousins. Please tell me how you came by these pictures. My family and the Days used to holiday on Canvey every summer from the middle 50’s to the mid 60’s. The Days stayed at Leigh Beck and we stayed at Maynell Ave behind the casino.
I was looking at old photos yesterday and found a picture of the stone boat we used to play on and it reminded me of our holidays so I found your excellent website and am just thrilled to see the pictures there.

  • As we said in the intro they have no provenance. They were passed to us some years ago. I think they are still in our collection. If we knew where they came from they would have been handed back. It was some years ago now.
These are photos of the concrete barge, the stone boat you mention. It’s nice to know a bit about the family at last.
