  • This is exactly how I remember Canvey back in the 60’s when we moved our caravan to Newlands  . The No 3 bus . The old MTB houseboat moored on this bank the other side of the bridge (out of veiw) a few boats down . I remember seeing an Everglades style swamp boat tied up opposite the bus stop . The photograph was taken from the gravel slip road that led up to the station depot gate . No later than the mid 60s . The clothing looks late 50s .

  • Hi Malcolm, I lived in one of the High Street cottages in Benfleet ( pulled down to build the new road) from my birth (1955) for about 5 years and then one of the Waterside cottages for a year or so. So I remember this well. Used to swim in the creek right by the train bridge. I still remember the last steam train coming through.
