I remember the theatre and seeing films (cartoons) such as “Buck Cheeser” a mouse, a spoof of “Buck Rodgers” space adventures and regular live variety performances put on by a theatre group of local kids – they were great.
It was in the late 1950’s and my mother used to take my younger brother and I (I was about 9 or 10) to stay at an on-site caravan my parents owned (the site number was Y8) for weekends and school holidays during the summer. We then lived in London.
I have many happy memories of Canvey and used to love the steam train trip from Fenchurch Street to Benfleet and long walks along the sea wall
