Trapped Animals Rescued
Pig and Chickens in Marooned Houses
Yeoman service has been renÂdered by the R.S.P.C.A. and the P.D.S.A, Clinic and dispensary staffs have joined with inspectors and volunteers in rescuing animals trapped by the floods.
Senior Inspector John Pickett, of Braintree, was one of the many inspectors called in from outlying districts. On Monday he was responsible for rescuing 52 cattle at Jaywick, and on Tuesday-brought 72 cattle off of Canvey.
After rescuing all the live cattle that could be found the inspectors set out to rescue what domestic animals they could find. On WedÂnesday, among a very mixed bag at Canvey was a pig that had been locked in a house for three days and was still alive.
Inside another house they found 24 chickens still chirpy, while quite a number of cats and dogs were found alive. All the animals are being tended by the R.S.P.C.A. until they can be returned to their owners.
