We now have the story behind the photo from the Echo Archive cuttings.

Castle Point Chairman Ron Sweeting almost treated his wife Kath to some new footwear yesterday. But they both discovered the clogs, among the exhibits at Canvey’s Dutch cottage museum, made the chairman’s first lady feel a little wooden.

Coun and Mrs Sweeting were on an official visit to the museum, a regular draw for the island’s visitors.

  • I’v good memories of Ron and Kath Sweeting, they were best friends of my mum and dad, Len and Jean Casson, for over 40 years. Ron always supported Island events. As well as being a councillor, he was Chairman of  Canvey Conservative club for many years. Dad and me had many good times in there with Ron.
