There was a mock battle on Canvey’s sea front on Monday when ‘Vikings’, who attempted to land were seen off under a heavy barrage of flour bombs, by the ‘Great Britons’, assisted by enthusiastic holiday makers.
The event was staged in aid of the World Refugee Fund and a collection was taken at the end of ‘hostilities.

The main indeed all the invaders were eventually recognised and rescued from a gradually sinking boat as soon as it got into water without the tow rope on. And bailing was brisk. They did not escape with the monies collected. As on shore they were seen in the main as Islanders even some life savers amongst them
