Canvey's Christmas Event and Market

Presented by Canvey Island Town Council

Christmas lights

The weather stayed dry but cold, the stage was lit with lights, the stalls piled high with goods and the crowds came out in droves. The Echo reckons 10,000 revellers filled the street. I did not have time to count them but there were definitely lots.

This was the Town Council’s Christmas Event and Market on Saturday 20th November 2010. For the first time Furtherwick Road was closed to traffic from 8 in the morning till 9 in the evening. This caused some confusion and with Canvey FC playing at home too there was a traffic jam or two.

There was Carol singing, fairground rides and Sue and Martin from Hart Radio. I spied Stig did you? That very tall chimney sweep would come in handy! Take That and Lady Gaga tributes entertained the crowds plus local dancers did their bit. Before Santa turned on some Christmas Lights.

Thanks go to everyone at the Town Council for all their hard work, to Suzanne Gray from the Monico for organising the Market and Sue and Martin from Hart Radio. Not forgetting everyone else who put in a very hard days work, including all the clearing up afterwards.

Thanks for a great day.

  • Its a pity more residents didn’t get to hear about this. It looked a good day. I for one didn’t know anything about this event. Come on Canvey get your act together, more advertising please if you want true community spirit.

  • It was well advertised Barbara, it was in the paper, on the radio, about town, in the library and also on our forum. 10,000 people turned out there was no room for any more.
