The Carnival came back in 2011 after a break of 10 years. Hopefully it will go on for many years to come.

Hi I used to take part in the carnival every year with my majorettes troupe. I now run my own troupe on Canvey and we would love to take part when it’s on again. Keep me informed please x

I think its an excellent idea bringing the Carnival back, however my only doubt its on a Saturday. More thought should have gone into why Carnival ended…Not only was it hard work for an ageing committee but Canvey people did’nt support it due to the traffic congestion it caused. Do you not think it would have been better on a Sunday? It could have start and Canvey Football Club come upto Seaview road and down to the Seafront ending at the Seafront Carpark where it always use to. This way only 2 roads would have needed to be closed for a short period of time and the Seafront could have been shut off for the afternoon, not causing too much hassle to drivers, who do not want to take part and just want to get from A-B on the Island. As well as this all people could take part as alot still have a Saturday as a normal working day.

Perhaps you should wait and see Sandra. The route will be shorter and the parade is coinciding with the Town Councils Fun Day down the seafront. Don’t knock it till you have tried it

I always took part in Canvey carnival every year since I was five years old with a majorette troupe. Then in 1999 I was honoured to be crown Canvey carnival queen and represent Canvey all over essex. I was then asked to stay on and take part of the last carnival on Canvey as queen. I was again incredibly honoured to do that and had the privilege to meet all the past queens and princess. It’s a day I will always remember, I have many fond memories of the carnival days and feel lucky to have been part of it for many years. I’m now 39yrs and still live on Canvey, and tell my children often of the fun I had taking part and representing Canvey.
