This short clip taken in 1935 is of the Valentine children swimming in the creek. You can see the seawall and the bungalows just peeping over the wall. The family have to negotiate the seawall to get back home.

i think the film is small gaines or tewkes creek. we used to go swimming over there allot in the 60s and 70s, and play on the old boats that were over there at the time. there was a jetty we used to jump off as well. great memories of them times

I think this is Tewkes Creek the gullies in the saltings have always been deeper and wider than those in Smallgains.

How lovely to see people swimming in the creek. It reminds me of Small Gains Creek where I spent many hours with my brother, Brian Thorpe,and friends. If the tide was in we swam or borrowed a wooden dinghy or canoe. If the tide was out we jumped the ‘dips’, the gullies you can see in the film. Many a time one of us would slip and get a booty or sink in the deep clinging mud. Our skin would have dried sea salt all over and we were brown as berries. We used to slide down the seawall on pieces of Lino. Total cost-nil. Total fun 100%.
