As far as I can remember Arthur Valentine (my uncle) worked at the docks until he retired. No connection with a garage.

I remember Arthur Valentine at the Leigh Beck garage. My dad, Ken Methven had his garage there. He used to make larded toast for us. I also remember that he had an early Mercedes 3-wheeler in his yard. Along from my Dad’s yard was Harry Bagley’s chromium plating shop.
