  • Hi there, my name is Paul Hurd and am one of the boys who had our photo taken by a teacher at Furtherwick School, after winning the southeast 7 a side rugby final, 1964.
The semi final and final were played at Woodlands High School Basildon.
In the final we (Furtherwick School ), managed to beat West High School 6points to nil.
Most of the boys in the photo still live on Canvey or the Southend on sea area as far as I know, apart from Terry Rayner ( not Terry Tayner), who went to Australia in 1964, just after the above photo was taken, as he commented above.
I have often thought about Terry and how his life has panned out. Terry hope you will contact me if you see this comment. Paul Hurd.

  • Hi Paul, it’s great to hear from you, I am really lost for words, what a memory you have. I hope you are ok, and we must keep in touch. It’s been 56 years since I left Canvey, I never wanted to go to Australia, and I am still home sick. We are all getting on now, are all the lads in the photo still kicking? do you still see any of them?. Please keep it touch Paul, let me know how your life has panned out. all the best.
