Marlborough House

The photograph of Marlborough House was taken when the Cleveland Boys Brigade accompanied by their chaplain, the Rev. Copeland Smith, Captain Hickson, Lieutenant Paine, and Mr. Miller, the bandmaster, spent a very happy week with their host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Scott.

On the first, night of their arrival, tents were not available, so some canvass was suspended round the verandah of the bungalow, and great fun the boys had from this unique way of camping out. A hayloft was chartered for the rest of their sojourn at Canvey, Lieutenant Paine sharing with them their novel sleeping quarters.

The boys so thoroughly enjoyed their stay at Marlborough House, that most probably the visit will be repeated this summer, when their kind caterers will again entertain them.
