More than 100 metres of block paving is being put down along Eastern Esplanade by the newly-refurbished Labworth Cafe, in Canvey Island.
The work is being carried out by Canvey 2000, a team of businessmen and councillors committed to regenerating the seafront in time for the millennium.
About £10,000 will be spent on the first section of paving, replacing the old gravel pathway.
