  • I wonder if this was the little arcade at the top end of Maurice Road. The high road was called London Road originally. I don’t ever remember there being a greengrocers down there so I am guessing it must be in the 1930’s. However I know my grandfather had his greengrocers shop at the top of this parade of shops on London Road, so would there have been two such shops so close? I doubt it.

  • In August 1950 my Dad, William F Page (also known as Fred) rented The Laundry Shop in The Arcade, Maurice Road, Canvey, for £52 per year, it was possibly then known as the Bagwash and it appears in 1966 The Arcade was demolished to make way for a car park. My parents lived in The Driveway!
