Hello. I think the building in the background could be the Salvation Army hall in Mitchells avenue with the old Smallgains creek wall behind[now gone] I know rescued people were taken there. The same building with photo of the eldery lady being carried. Regards Sparrow

My Dad was in the Army at the time and he was one of the Army that helped out and also he helped to build the sea wall up. I was not born then. But my Mum had 2 children and the 3rd on its way which was another sister she was born 31st 1953
