Canvey Seafront Postcard

no date

Anyone want a guess at the date for this postcard? I am guessing 50s. See the roundabouts down by the casino.

  • I would say after the 53 flood,as I remember there was no addition to the wall prior to then.

  • We know it is after the 53 flood Frank as this is the post flood wall. But still would like to know when it was taken.

  • I’d say late 60s’ The clues are in the background: The ‘new’ toilet block has replaced the old St Johns hut, the flats have replaced Andrews Amusements at the bottom of May Ave but there is no sign of the Windjammer. It’s all a bit blurry, the only thing slightly bothering me is that the mens’ clothes look more 50s than 60s but the double push-chair looks comparatively modern. Mothers of that era might have a more expert opinion on this than yours truly.

  • Skirts are too long for late 60s.

  • I lived on Canvey from the age of 3 until I was nearly 10, I have a lot of good memories of my time there, I now live in Scotland but I hope to return to Canvey for a visit.
