This lovely picture was taken in the late 1950’s near a lake which you can see in the background.

  • I used to live in thisselt road, where my mum and dad still live and we often had ducks and swans walk down the road, and sometimes they even came through the back garden just like this, fond memories of feeding them all.

  • This has got to be the record clutch of 11 cygnets produced around the time of Canvey Flood by the resident pair of swans. The event was reported in the national newspapers, I believe. Sadly, one of the cygnets died, but the pair raised the remaining 10 and locals spent a lot of time watching them.

  • At present there is a family of 2 adults and 6 cygnets on Canvey Lake, all looking in very good condition! Does anybody out there have any knowledge of their chances of survival & staying on the Lake to over-winter there. It has happened in previous years that we have had swan families on the Lake but they never stay permanently. 🤔Graham.

  • Forgot to say in my recent comment that I met Alan Browne, (Morrisons Community Champion) on the Denham Rd bridge, this evening and he showed me a lovely photo on his phone of the female and cygnets taken this morning.
Typically daft of me I didn’t ask him to pass it on to the Archive. I know he lives a few roads away from me but don’t know his address. I wonder if Jan has means of contacting him to get hold of the photo??🙄👍 Graham.
