Here are some Post Cards, I also have a magazine book Britain’s Great Flood Disaster when the Queen mother and Elizabeth visited Canvey Island, after the floods.
Green Glades Cafe – This was where the current Petrol Garage is next to Michells Ave
My grandfather (William H Smith) also sent some pictures after the flood 31st Jan 1953, I think the photographer was John Charles from Benfleet.

I am interested in finding out more about the South Benfleet Creek Houseboat fire [on the Canvey.org Forum See HERE]. Is there any more infomation on that? I applied for a newspaper from England but to a cost of $130 I only received a short story about Vicky Wright. Any news would be appreciated.

I am in Australia, my father has been here since 1952 and is the only surviving member from his family. I am trying to piece together a family history, maybe somebody knows of someone else to contact?

Hi my dad was in the service and was assisted in the flooding. I have been advised that a photo appeared in one of the papers. Where can I find these archived photos. Kind regards
We have some here on the archive. Southend library holds local newspapers and there is the British newspaper archive online which is just about coming to the 1950s for some areas.
