  • Reverend Fleetwood

  • The woman seated on the right wearing glasses, a full brimmed hat and a floaty dress with bolero top (which she undoubtedly made herself), is my grandmother Charlotte Smith. She lived on Canvey from 1948-1969, first in one of the ‘atomic bomb’ bungalows, and then at ‘Lomondside’ 71 Long Road, a timber and asbestos sheet chalet bungalow with deep verandas all around more suited to the tropical sun of Malaya than the cloudy skies of coastal Essex….(long since demolished and redeveloped). She and her son Eric ran a second hand shop on the corner of High Street and Normans Road (?) in the 1960’s.

  • I recognise the lady third from the left in the photo with Rev. Fleetwood but I can’t remember her name. I think she worked in a shop.
