1938 The 192 (Essex) Heavy Battery. At Runnymede Road, Canvey
‘A keen horse-rider and huntsman Col. Fielder became most active in the promotion of a pre- war Territorial unit of the Royal Artillery on Canvey when he formed a section of a Heavy Battery, Royal Artillery, from employees of Fielder Estates Ltd. Its title was the 192 (Essex) Heavy Battery.’ as stated by Fred McCave.

Col. Fielder was indeed a keen horseman and kept his horses in stables where Pharma chemist’s mini mart & off licence in Furtherwick Road now stand. He rode with the Essex Hunt & my father would often join him riding one of the Col’s horses. I have a photogragh of my father on a horse outside the stables. My father is 1st on the left centre row.
My Dad is also there in the back row fifth from the left, Bill Stiff.
