Robert achieved much sporting success while at Furtherwick Park. Amongst the events he took part in was in 1984 in the Cross Country Championships where he came first in his race. He won by a clear 25 seconds. This resulted in him being selected to captain the Essex Intermediate Boys’ Team at the All England Cross Country Championships which were held in Norwich in the following month.
