DISTAFF CLUB’S EVENT
At the “Admiral Jellicoe” Canvey on Saturday were gypsies, beatniks, “Roaring 20 Ladies”, spacemen, topsy-turvey men, topsy-turvey women, and even one of the Beatles complete with wife and baby in pram. The occasion was the Distaff Club’s annual fancy dress dance, which was attended by 80 members, husbands and friends. Dancing was to the Hot-spot Band under the direction of Mr. Arthur Rapkin, who also acted as M.C.
At the club’s well attended meetÂing on Monday, a demonstration on 6 models was given by Mrs. Peggy Walles a local hairdresser, on hair colouring. Mrs. Walles was presented with a potted plant, and her models make-up bags.
Mrs. Walles also judged the hat competition, which was run in conÂjunction with the club bazaar they are holding on December 7 in aid of the N.S.P.C.C. Winners were Amy Plant, Pauline Hook and Violet Venables.
