Henry Clubb's Collection

The Archive has been given an album of photographs of Canvey taken by Henry Clubb a local Benfleet photographer. The album is dated as c1925. Many of his pictures will be familiar to you as they have been used in books and postcards etc but there are a lot we have never seen before. This section will be dedicated to his pictures we will gradually be uploading them.

We believe Henry Clubb was the Henry James Clubb who lived in the End Way, South Benfleet in the 1929 Electoral Register along with his wife Alice and son John James William Clubb. Henry was born in Lambeth, married his wife Alice Maud Parker in Shoreditch in 1902. They had at least two children John b1903 and Louise b 1906. The family resided in Shoreditch from 1902 to at least 1918. Henry died in 1935 and his son in 1961 both deaths recorded in the Rochford District which covers the Benfleet area.
