Au revoir to the container ship Algeciras.

Canvey Islanders lined the seawall in eager anticipation of seeing the largest container ship to have visited the Estuary take its leave. The tugs started to move the giant away from the quayside at approximately 18.30 hrs and that took about 20 minutes. Another 25 minutes and it was steaming past the Labworth at 10 knots.

If you thought it looked big when it arrived well, it looked a lot bigger when it left carrying many more containers than it had the day before!

Just as it moved out of sight we had an added bonus of seeing a smaller container ship pass in front of the giant.

Islanders wait patiently for the big container ship Algeciras.
