A tight fit on stage for Jubilee dancers.

Karen Jones Stage School.

Published April 1977.

These four look as though they could lead someone a pretty song and dance. For the leggy quartet are just four of 100 performers in a Silver Jubilee song and dance spectacular. The girls, left to right, Debbie Day, 17, Angela May, 13, Vivien Cosby, 15 and Teresa Bradewood, 13 were very lucky to get on the stage though. Because the finale of Showtime ’77 at the Paddocks, Canvey involved all 100 performers joining in a patriotic routine. And for fear that some of the smaller performers might get a little pushed out, 50 of the cast sang and danced among the audience. The dancers were all members of the Karen Jones Stage School of Canvey. Teacher Karen explained:” The stage would have been overcrowded if all 100 stayed on stage. And the smaller ones would not have been seen.” For the finale, the performers were clad in red, white and blue and joined together in singing There’ll Always Be An England.
