  • Mambo: Hello mate. If you ever get the desire to dig out those photos of the Goldmine I’d be extremely grateful. I guess some former attendees of the ‘said’ club may not realise just how important the club was for the soul/jazz funk scene? In fact, in many respects it, along with a few other Southern/Northern ‘soul’ clubs of the late 70s/80s, was where the juggernaut of a music culture of ‘House Music’ morphed out of? Dance music, a huge scene that has grown massively across the world, was given a huge push by the soul jazz/funk crowd of the late 70s early 80s. Pete Tong went onto become a global ambassador of the dance scene and many British DJs (Carl Cox/Sasha etc) are well and truly established as global ‘scene’ icons. The Goldmine, along with other similar clubs/events were instrumental in creating a phenomenon … x
