Canvey Island Floods

Febuary 1st 1953

I was born here 58 years ago so yes I survived the Floods of 53′. I have lived here all my life apart from one year when I moved to Benfleet.

Canvey seems to have a hold over me, maybe its the seawall all around, maybe it’s the fact that I can be in London in 40minutes and on my way to France in less than 90minutes.

Maybe it’s because I know that although Canvey has problems with youth I am aware that these problems occur everywhere, even in the most upmarket place in England.

Maybe it’s something in my bones “excuse the pun as my maiden name was Bones but I do think Canvey Island is a very special place thats why I joined the Canvey Archive to give something back to the place that has looked after me all these years.
