My dear departed Dad’s birth certificate states that he was born at “Le Buoys” Waarden Road, in 1928. We have been told by several relatives that he was born on a boat, but I have been unable to verify this. I found a photo in a book of the Lakeside in 1928 (photo to follow when I find it), and there were just a few timber roughcasts along the side of the lake. I would love to know if there were boats there at that time as I believe the Lake was more open to the creek in those days.
It particulary interests me because I only discovered this long after he passed away, and when I found out I was living on a boat myself! Coincidence – or is it in the blood…
Some unrelated photos of Canvey follow.
