Memories of Jeanette Mitchell

Jeannette was the wife of Dennis Mitchell, Director of Duration Windows. They lived in Canvey from the late 1960s to the 2000’s .

Jeanette was my Grandmother, Dennis was my step Grandfather. They were both councillors and wore Mayoral chains during the 70s when I was a child not sure which years but they were very active on council. (ED …Likely after 1974 not in list of Chairman for CIUDC)

My Grandmother was known as the Lady of the market for some time she sold curtains at Canvey market. They lived at first on the sea front near the sea wall and park and I spent all of my childhood holidays climbing up the bank to the sea wall and playing on the small strip of beach with my brother, also twins Melanie and Roni and a girl called Heidi …they later moved to Linroping Avenue.

All my childhood memories are of Canvey, best days ever. I remember the street parties for the Silver Jubilee and the carnivals, the floats and the majorettes spinning their battons. I loved it all.

If anyone has anymore pics of my Grandma and step Grandfather I would love to see them.

Further details: They originally lived on Marine Parade in a house called Estrellita facing the sea wall, maybe the beach was called Concorde beach !
