Canvey Island's Miniature Railway

Video taken 2010

This video shot in 2010, although at times might be too much about the actual trains for most of our audience, is very interesting as it tells how it all began back in the 70’s. The miniature railway has been part of Canvey ever since and many of our children have been brought up with a trip to the railway as a treat. Many people flock to the Island to see the setup at Waterside Leisure Centre. It is part of Canvey’s history.

  • Been to the railway many times and loved the video. I wonder if any current members recall or know of Ray Armstead, BT training manager from Silvertown area in London. I know he brought his own locomotive there a few times. Lost touch with Ray since I retired. Anybody recall him ?

  • My dad, Brian Joslin, held the evening class where the men made this train, local model engineers! He loved his evenings with them and we proudly had the first ride at Waterside Farm! Lovely memories.
