By John Buckmaster (04/06/2009)

I went to school with Leslie Naughton who lived at Willalla with I think her grandmother, was she named Mrs Mansfield. When the new warden controlled house was built my aunt run the scheme for several years. Her name was Doris Levens. She died in Wales aged 92.

On second thoughts I think the lady who lived at Willala was Mrs Manser

Hi Helen, The lady’s name was Mrs Manthorp and she was quite a prominent figure on Canvey in the 40s and 50s. She was a School Governor at Furtherwick Park School and the Science block(still retained) was named the Manthorp Block. Leslie married my mate John FitzGerald and they built a bungalow on the site of the original ‘Wilalla'(which was closer to Furtherwick Rd than the sheltered accommodation).John and Leslie lived there for many years but now live close to Manningtree in N.Essex.
