  • Looks like the Creek Wall on the L/hand side, I think I’ve heard that Bond’s Stores was at the end of one of those roads off Holbeck Rd.

  • According to Dowd’s Cyclopedia Bond’s Stores was at Maurice Road Corner and was rebuilt as Thurston’s

  • I have to say that I do not know Canvey Island at all, but my father used to holiday as a child with his family on Canvey Island. I have a copy of a photo that was taken in the early 1920s, it may help you with your enquiries.

  • I’m keen to know if Bond’s Stores had anything to do with the various properties that had the Bond themed names in Vanderwalt Avenue, Bondville, Bondina and Bondholn (the last two now demolished and replaced with the new houses, nicely called Bond Mews to keep with the theme.  I understood from an elderly neighbour of one of these properties that Bond Stores was either at the top of the road on the High Road opposite Maurice Road (where the chemist is now) or on the corner of Maurice Road?  It would be interesting to know more about the history of these houses and their names.
