The year after the war

In the year after the war we visited a couple of elderly family friends who lived in a bungalow, one of many, along an unmade road. It had gas lighting and a beautiful horse drawn gypsy caravan in the garden. My aunt Renee Vickery’s friends came down from West Ham for a couple of days, they were cheeky girls. One of the attractions for them was that there were still plenty of American airmen about. The ‘Yanks’ held large dance party’s in the pubs and they were super friendly to the locals. The girls loved to have fun and I tried to join in.
