Oysterfleet Lighthouse

Postmarked 1921

Published by kind permission of the late Mr H.A. Osborne and Mr R.W Osborne.

Home of Captain Gregson on the left (later to be the home of Dr Feelgood’s Music Bar) the unusual building was the Oysterfleet Lighthouse supposedly built for his mother-in-law to keep her out of the house. But, according to the family she never came to Canvey, along with other members of her Guernsey family she emigrated to New Zealand, although I understand Captain Gregson might have helped this happen.

The lighthouse was demolished before it could be made into a listed building to make way for the Oysterfleet Hotel.
