I can remember my parents talking about this. I was about 8yrs old. We had a bungalow in Brandenberg Road we used for holidays. We weren’t allowed to go on the island during 1940/42 for fear of invasion, only my father who was a property owner. The rest of the family were stopped at Benfleet station and were put on the train back to London.
