Remembrance day 1939

Claxton film clip

This I believe is the Remembrance Day Parade and service of 1939. With the outbreak of war just a few weeks before, the service must have held much sadness and apprehension for the people of Canvey Island. The memorial plaque for WWI that is featured in this clip now hangs on the wall of the British Legion in Denham Road. I recently photographed it and decided to incorporate my picture into this clip.

Lest We Forget.

  • Sorry Sue we have no way of knowing for sure but I would think it was very likely that it is them.

  • Sorry don’t know either, What I do know is I still know the meaning of Memorial day and it’s a crying shame most of the younger generation has no idea except to grillout and drink lots of booze.
