Sue Hampson talks to the Ladies about our work at the Archive

Thursday 16th October saw one of our first Archive Presentations

Some of the Ladies looking at the photos and memorabilia

We had been invited by the Canvey Conservative Ladies who hold their meetings at Fielder House.

Sue Hampson Chair, Janet Penn Editor, Graham Stevens Deputy Chair and myself Secretary went along and were given a very warm welcome from the ladies.

We took with us lots of photos and memorabilia for the ladies to look at and Sue did us proud by explaining who we were and how the Archive came about.

After tea was served many of the ladies took time to talk to us about their own memories of Canvey and a number of appointments were made to go along and gather all these memories.

Sue Hampson talking about the Archive

One particular lady Kathleen Coleyhaving lived on Canvey for well over 50 years and a very prominent member of the St John’s Ambulance is very keen for us to meet her son to look at all their family photos and collect their memories! Mrs Doris Edgington is also very keen for us to listen to her own memories of Canvey having lived here nearly all her life, she  has certainly seen lots of change around the Island.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved on the day as it has given us a sounding board for any future presentations, as hopefully this is just the start of our roundup of Canvey’s very special Memories.
