Canvey Lifeguards to the rescue!!!!!!

by Marian 'Copper' Hastings

Helicopter from the Queens flight at Bradwell

The helicopter was the Queens Flight when Prince Philip came to Bradwell to review his D.of E. Award Scheme. The organiser, Peter Gurnel, was badly let down as it was awful weather and very few other organizations turned up, so the Canvey Lifeguards turned to and became all things to all men-from first aid to knots, sailing to engine maintenance. Cyril and Katie Mallet rushed over to Danbury where he was off to next, to man the archery stand as they were both keen archers. He came, he saw, he left without realising that he had met most of Canvey’s Lifeguards. (I think a lot of the organizations had gone to Danbury)
