Club's launch of 45m pontoon

Yacht club bosses are set to float a 45 meter pontoon off Can­vey Point.

Island Yacht Club secretary, Valerie Deane said the move was aimed at promoting dingy sailing for youngsters on the island. She called on wannabe sailors to join to the club. “Sailing is a wonderful healthy activity. It teaches people to become self-reliant and have a healthy respect for the sea,” she said.

Training days are available with instruction given in Royal Yacht­ing Association courses.

Anyone interested should visit the club at weekends when mem­bers are always available for advice.
