Photo taken 1968

On the back of the photo it says:-

A mechanical grab scooping earth from an underground liquid gas store, one of four being excavated for the Gas Council at a cost of £4 million at Canvey Island. Trfridgerated brine is carried into the earth by the pipes (foreground) to freeze the walls of the tank.

  • Dear Janet,

Wow, what a fantastic photograph of the construction of this important addition to the LNG storage infrastructure.

Do you have any more photographs or information like this of the in-ground LNG storage tank construction or structural elements?

    Kind regards,

    Graeme
